By activating Double Speed in combat, the animation speed of attacks and the battle's dragons are sped up to 2x the normal amount.

 

This is just a visual speed, and does not increase or decrease the difficulty of the battle.

 

You can activate and deactivate this by tapping the "2x" button in the combat screen.
