Almost every progressive action awards RESPECT. You can earn large amounts by completing Story Missions and Challenge Missions, but many actions in the game world will earn you Respect as well, such as killing non-player characters, stealing vehicles, and purchasing items from the Shop.
Respect helps you level up your main character to get Skill Points. Spend them at Profile > Skills section of the Main Menu to improve your character and gameplay experience (for example: reducing cops awareness of your crimes or increasing amount of loot from killed enemies).
The maximum level your character can reach is 85, but even then you can continue receiving Skill Points as rewards from events or as part of our Loyalty Program
